change of target audience

i have decided to change my target audience for my magazine from 16-25 years old to 14-16 years old as i found that my magazines contents will fit that particular age range better. I have also used a 15 year old girl as my model which means that her fashion and music will fit the age range which means more people will be interested to buy it.
i was also going to have fashion tips in my magazines with my model in different clothes but i have decided to change that and just stick to basing it on music but it will talk about some parts of fashion in my double page spread.

photoshoots-planning

For my magazine i am going to use a single female solo artist because i think this is more effective and will also attract both the female and male attention. I have based my artist around Cheryl Cole, Rhianna and Pixie Lott as i have found that these female solo singers are more popular on magazines for young adults and these will appeal to the audience that i am studying. My model Amanda will be wearing fashional and bright coloured clothes as people between the age of 16-25 prefer to wear clothes like this, which will make them stand out from the crowd. Her outfit will be trendy to get the readers attention, i will not be using any props because i want the magazine to focussed on the artist herself rather than the equipment i used.

Moodboard

This is my moodboard it will have the images and text that i would like to have representing my magazine. The fonts are soft and delicate which will appeal more to a female audience. The images that will be on my moodboard are the images similar to the sort of images i would like to have on my magazine.

calendar

i am going to make a calendar so i know the dates for my own deadlines and when things need to be completed by

7th-11th Feburary- finish research and start planning
8th-15th Feburary- finish all of the planning (decide front cover&content&double page spread, models, name of magazine)
16th-18th- photoshoot

magazine name

i have decided to call my magazine 'Solo', as i think its fits more with the age range i have chosen but also because its means individual.

analysed journalist style

i have chosen to analyse the journalist style and structure of this article from 'heat' magazine, it based on an interview with Dermot O'Leary.
The article uses blue soft text so that it stands out but not right in your face but it certainly catches the readers eye as it is different colour from black but it is a soft and delicate text so its nice and easy to read but also catches readers attention. The background is plain white which means the images of Dermot and his kid stands out as well as the writing which makes it easier to reader but if people like looking at images it will be better to see as they stand out.
in this article it is mostly for older women as Dermot has his top off so that women a look at his lush body but then also says at the start of the article  reason for going gooey over Dermot O'Leary which will attract women eye so it will make them want to read all about him.
The article uses very persuasive text to make the women what to read all about him and is new born baby 'his top off and lovingly cradled his friend's baby in his arms' which makes women know that Dermot is looking out and caring for his baby, but they will also want there husband/boyfriend to be the exact same.
The writer also addresses it to women readers by saying: Just in case the ladies of Britain (and some men) which come across as the writer knows that women will want to read the article as soon as they see dermot's name and pictures of his body, but the writer has done this to make it more formal and to involve the reader.

I have added a picture of dermot so that the audience can see that he loves his new born baby very much, and doesn't care if paparazzi is there watching him.

media theory

My target audience is mostly for older teenager aged 16-24. the magazine that i am going will be a fashion and music magazine combined in one as i find this age group would prefer something like this. My magazine is mostly for the female audience but i dont think it will affect the sale because there is plenty male magazine that assosicate with the similar thing as in my magazine. My magazine will not be too dear as most people dont like to spend massive amounts of money on a magazine so i dont think they will have a problem buying it, but also because  most people have either a saturday job or in a job so i dont think they will have any problem. i think every girl will be able to read this magazine as it will assosicate with every girl in some way.

analysed band images

here i have chosen a picture of girls aloud as they used to be a very popular group and they was very popular with girls but also lots of boys too. they are all wearing dresses of different kinds and colours which if on front of a magazine they will get the readers attention because they are very colourful, these relates to my magazine because they produce music but they are also wearing fashion icon dresses, which means girls will want to buy it because they will want to be like girls aloud.

i have also chosen a picture of the saturdays because they are another fashion icon because they are all wearing bright coloured dresses which will get the readers attention and make them want to read about them. they also produce good quality of music and are very high rated. they are very popular with the females because of them fashion and music but also very very popular with the boys. this relates to my magazine because my picture will be very colourful and bright.

i have chosen these two similar types of pictures because they are both girl groups and my magazine will be for girls, but they are also very well dressed and produce good music which my magazine is music and fashion combined in one so it will work really well.

institution to produce and distribute

i have decided to use ipc to publish my magazine as i have found that they realite to my magazine more. i am doing a fashion and music magazine combined in one which they produce both of these magazines individally. they have produced all the best magazine and the most popular for example: marie claire, look, nme which most people prefer to buy but they are also in a reasonable price range and i have found that most of the people will buy these magazines because they are colourful and have big and bright titles but they also have a picture of a celebrity on it which when i produce my magazine will have a picture on the front page like they have.

music magazine circulation

i have research the music magazines which are most popular now a days and the results i got are quite similar as the top 3 are mostly to do with rock which suggests that mostly boys buy these magazines.
Classic Rock 70,301 (70,188, 66,362)
Kerrang! 43,253 (52,272, 60,294)
Metal Hammer 46,004 (50,269, 48,540)
Mojo 97,722 (100,507, 106,367)
NME 40,948 (48,459, 56,284)
Q 100,172 (103,107, 113,174)
Uncut 76,526 (87,069, 86,925)

The fashion magazines which women mostly buy the most off are:
Allure magazine and they produce 12 issuses a year which means a issue every month
Cosmopolitan magazine which also produce 12 issuses a year.
elle magazine which produces 24 issues a year which is one every 2 weeks.
ensquire magazine which produces 12 issues a year.
glamour magazine which produes 12 issuses a year so one every month.
in style magazine which has 12 issuses a year.
marie claire magazine produes 12 issuses, so one per month.
teen vogue produces 20 issuses a year.
vogue magazine produces 12 issuses a year.
w magazine produces 12 issuses per year, so one every month.
these are most favourites because there front cover are eye catching because they use bright colours but also use a big bold title so that it will also catch the readers eye.

i think my magazine will sell well in the market because it has got a mixture of these magazine because mine will have both fashion and music which is different from these as they have one or the other. My music will be different to the ones i found as mine will be mostly pop but i dont think it will affect the population that will buy my magazine.

USP- unique selling point

my magazine is going to be different from the rest because it is a fashion and music magazine combined in one normally the music magazine and fashion magazine are seperate but im going to combine them in to one. its going to be colourful so that when its on the shelf it will stand out from the rest and make people want to buy it because it will be eye catching. The pricing will be affordable to everyone so that everyone will be able to afford it, but it will also attract people cause of the unexpensive price. the pictures of my models will be eye catching because they will be dressed in bright colours which will attract the readers eye.

Preliminary task

My front cover that I have done for my perlimary task is very standard and plain and not eye catching. The colours are very standard and quite boring, the title is plain black which doesn’t really attract the readers eye and make them want to buy it also the title ‘smc social’ its not very attractive and quite rubbish and wouldn’t make people want to buy it.
It doesn’t have a slogan either which means it will just fit in with the rest of the magazines so it wont stand out from the rest so not many people will want to buy it.
It has got a close up of gabbie davies on the front which means that it will connect more with the person reading the magazine and the producer of the magazine.
The background is a baby pink colour so its not very bright and wouldn’t stand out from a mile away.
The leading caption I have used is ‘wow! Ann interview with the principle’ and I have made this my leading caption by putting it in big and bold writing so that will catch the readers attention. I have also used this because in my magazine I will be interviewing someone so it connects with my piece that I am going to produce.
My subheading is at the bottom of the page instead of down the side connecting with the person I have taken a picture off, I have done this so that its different from the rest.
I aim to improve on my magazine a better title name so that it will attract different types of people and different ages so that more people will want to buy it. I am also going to put more information on the front page so as the reader walks past he will want to buy it.

Feedback 27.1.11

Abi, I'm glad to see you've posted your ideas and have found some pages to analyse. You need to do a post outlining the conventions of magazines - see the notes and powerpoint we covered in class. Then you need to actually analyse each page. Perhaps you could annotate the pages. See me next lesson if you need help with this. Also, as soon as it's finished, upload your front cover and sketch of contents pages for the prelim with a brief analysis. You should also book a time slot for your workshop next week - see Nikki or Mike for this.

double page spread

now i am going to look at double page spread. i have foind two really good but different pieces to show the differences.

the first one is off Lily Allen this one is totally different because it is set out to be a newspaper article rather than a magazine, this breaks the convections of a typical magazine double page spread. the title is really striking and it caught by eye as soon as i looked at it, but also because it is a quote from the extract this also helps it breaks the convections. also it is different because there is only one picture and in typical magazines you generally get 3 or 4.

the other one is from express yourself and this is totally different from the other one because it is set out to look like a magazine. there is one picture at the bottom that the words work round i really like this idea because it is different but looks nice and eye catching. it is also different from the other one because it has got more than one picture. the title is big and bold but again very simple and eye catching.

my double page spread are both similar as they have a big title to get the readers attention.
in my first double page spread it looks like they have used cuts from a newspaper which is different because not many magazines do they, which will certainly get the readers attention as soon they open on that page. they have also used a well known celebrity which will make people want to read about her and what she has done. there is quite alot of white spage which is very normal for a magazine but they also dont over load you with a huge story so you dont get bored or put of reading it. lily is making eye contact with the reader as she looking at them directly but from side on.
in the second double page spread i have chosen the title is big and bold and in the colour pink which catches your eye because it is different but because it is bold it make you want to read the story that she is premoting. the structure of the text is revolved around the image of the girl led on the floor, they have done this to use a frame around the girl. they girl is looking at the reader the same way the girl was in the first one from side on, they have done it like this to make contact with the reader. they have also used small images around the side to make the article more interesting but also if they have been at a different location, or if they are premoting something. they have used a text box in between the two pictures to show us how much money she has spend and what on, so that we can feel like we know her and want to read all about her.

contents page- research

i am going to look at different contents pages to show the convections of them.

i have chosen this contents page, because it is different and plain but really striking and eye catching and this is how i want my contents page to be like. the colours are very plain and simple but they will fit with the magazine it has come from.

i have chosen this one because it is totally different than the other one because of the colours and the layout they have used, but its the same because they have only used one picture and this is quite typical for contents pages rather then loads of pictures covering the page.

i have chosen both these contents pages as they are both different and they will grab the readers attention. in the first contenst page they have done the girl lying down and balancing all the ideas up, i think this works really well because it is different. the chose of colours they have chosen to use are non typical as you would expect bright, warm colours but this contents have challenged media and gone with the black and white look to be different, the title is very big and broken up which will certaintly grab the readers attention as soon as they open it because it stands out. the background is very plain which means you dont get distracted and so you can focus on the text more. even though the girl is led down she is still looking at he camera, which she is giving direct address to the reader by making them feel more involved in the magazine. they have also split the different catogries up which means you can focus more on what you want to read rather than reading the whole magazin if you wanted.
In the second contents page i have used they have put a bright, warm image on the top right hand side of the page which as soon as you flip over your magazine the image and the colour will catch your eye. the word 'contents' is just plain white so that we dont get distracted by the amount of colour used,it also makes the image stand out more because it is on top of it. The background colour used is white so that we can read everything it says on the page without having to work around the background colour. they have numbered the pages, so it makes it easier to read the magazine so that if you dont want to read it all you can just look at certain pages.
These are both good contents pages but both different which caught my eye because they stand out more and make the magazine itself seem more interesting to read.

convections of a magazine-front covers

i am going to look at convections of a fashion magazine, by looking at a few examples, i have found girly magazince with bright pink colours that attract womens eyes. the models are always girls.

i have chosen this magazine as an example because the colours are bright caught my eye. the title is big and bold. it is also quite plain with nothing to stricking but because of the colours and the font type they stand out.

i have chosen this magazine as an example because again the colours are bright but the background makes it stand out because it is plain. the model pose is different to the other one i have chosen because it is a close up and doesnt show any body or clothes which is different because it is a fashion magazine so it breaks the convections.

The images that that both magazines have used will fit my magazine very well because they both have older women on the front so you can tell straight away that its not for children. my magazine is for 16-25 year old so i will be using a picture on the front cover like these magazines have but she will be a little younger than these, but i dont think it will affect the population that buy these types of magazines.
The title in both magazines are used in the colour pink which expresses its mostly for girls, the title are bold big and bold so that as a person is walking past in the shop it will grab the readers eye and will make them want to buy it.
The background in the first magazine 'fashion' is very plain and white which will attract the readers eye because they will be able to see everything on the front page and not get distract by the background colour. Where as the second i stink cover 'vogue' uses a grey white colour  to make the reader just focus on the picture and the information on the front page.
In the second magazine they have used celebrities on the front cover which is very important as a lot of people buy the magazine if there favourite celeb is on the front. The front cover of 'vogue' have used victoria beckham which is a female and male icon but she is very popular lady and a lot of people will want to read this magazine to see what she has to offer in the magazine.
In the first magazine 'fashion' they have used a model on the front page. Even though she is a pretty girl it isnt as affective as having a celebrity on the front page.

In my magazine front cover i will be using a made up 'celebrity' but she will be producing her new single. Buy using a 'celebrity' on the front of my page people will want to buy it to find out about her and her new debate. My front cover will be very bright and eye catching because it will have lots of bright and girly colours so that it will it will stand out to the reader that is is mostly for 16-25 years old. The colour will represent the type of genre because i am doing a pop magazine and people will know that because i will be using bright colours to interest my reader.
The font i will be using throughout my magazine will be mostly similar but the top headlines will be bold and a different colour as the small ones can be either standard or italic.
My magazine will have a barcode on the bottom left hand corner with the price just above so that people know how much it will be, but it will also be less than £1:50 because it is a weekly magazine which i think alot of people will buy as it is weekly magazine so i will keep the reader interested.

inital ideas

i have chosen to do the magazine as my coursework piece. i am going to do hybrid of music and fashion. the music im going to base my magazine on pop music. my main artist will be one singer.
